Friday Clickfest
This week, with puppies!

This is how excited I am that it's Friday!
Social Media
- Author Jamie Harrington discusses the importance of having the same image represent you all over the interwebs, and encourages you to create a Gravatar.
- Unfortunately the transcript is not yet up, but #KidLitChat‘s April 13 discussion topic was: What online promotions are working for you (for a book or a site)? Any cool tools or tips to share? It was a fantastic twitter chat about how authors can use social media – blogs and twitter accounts – to improve their online presence. Tons of great advice was shared, so I recommend browsing the convo when it’s up.

Why so angry? It's Friday!
Writing
- S. Jae-Jones took up the topic of conveying love in novels. Weepy confessions of adoration from a balcony simply aren’t enough!, S. Jae-Jones (correctly) counsels. The sage advice, to show and not tell, applies almost more here than anywhere else. Sure, you say you love me, fictional Romeo. But what have you done for me lately?
- Agent and author extraordinaire Nathan Bransford agreed with YA Highway’s Leila and urged writers to persevere or, in his words, exercise willpower. Without a Spartan work ethic, Bransford says, ne’er a book will be written.
- Author Natalie Whipple last week (I’m lagging, I know) shared her experience filling out character sheets for her WiP. This is something I think I’m going to do when I get to the first phase of revisions. I was reassured when Whipple said she saw no reason to do a character sheet before then, because she feels (as I do) that until you complete a first draft, you don’t know your characters yet. “It would be like meeting a guy at the coffee shop and deciding you know everything about him just from one conversation,” Whipple says. “What good is that?”
Reading
- The New York Times apologizes for totally missing Tinkers, the small-press novel by Paul Harding that was this week awarded the Pulitzer Prize for literature.
- NY Magazine also has a helpful guide to what books are worth your hard-earned dollars this spring.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

oh the puppies made this SO awesome! I love the links here (especially my own). Thanks!
I hadn’t thought of keeping the same image throughout the entire social media realm! Interesting. That’s got me thinking! Thank you!
