RTW: My WiP Love List

by sarahenni on August 22, 2012

It’s Road Trip Wednesday day, a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway posts a weekly writing- or reading-related question and anyone can answer it on their own blogs. Check out their post for links to other Road Trippers’ answers!

This week’s topic is: Inspired byStephanie Perkins’ post on Natalie Whipple’s blog, what is your novel’s “Love List”?

(Why I Really, Really, Really Like You pad for sale by KnockKnock here!)

I’m so excited about this topic, because now is the perfect time for me to remember what it is about this book I love enough to get started on (dun dun dunnnn) revisions! Here are a few things about my WiP that keep me coming back:

Ken Burns and his effect

A girl wearing big glasses

Segway Polo

Untied Doc Martens that look like they’re eating someone’s legs

This picture of Eddie Vedder stagediving

Blue-green light filtered through an atrium

Modern shipwrecks

This image of a female drummer

Creepy yard gnomes

Keep Santa Cruz Weird

The way streetlights look at night after rain

Those are just a few of the things on my list… I’ll have to add this as a Scrivener file to check back on when motivation runs low!

What about you? What’s on your love list?

I actually laughed out loud at the Segway Polo thing (Some of our cops around here ride Segways. Weird, right?), and loved the Doc Martens one too! Great list, Sarah! :)

I’ve seen cops on Segways around my house too! I must admit, it seems like a smoother ride than the horses :) Maybe I can get a Segway on the cheap at a police auction! *ideas*

Great images, esp the streetlights.

Thanks Jennifer :) I love the streetlight imagery so much!

Great list! :)

Your WIP sounds like a lot of fun. Side note: the ship in that shipwreck picture has the same name as my sister, lol.

That’s so crazy, Crystal! I love it :) And I definitely hope the WiP is fun, that’s what I’ve had writing it!

This sounds all kinds of awesome. Especially the segway polo, and modern shipwrecks. Good luck with the revisions!

Modern shipwrecks are pretty fascinating things. There’s a wormhole of Youtube videos there, LOL! Thanks so much Rebecca!

You’ve set in Santa Cruz? =D I’ve been in love with that place ever since I watched The Lost Boys.

Loves the images you create with your list. Sounds like an interesting WiP!

The Lost Boys are SUCH a huge part of the Santa Cruz mystique! I’ve been to that bridge before, and it is still creep-tastic!

Oh, Eddie Vedder. *sigh* Fun list!

Total sigh. Grunge-tastic sigh!

Wonderful list, I especially like the blue/green light, modern shipwrecks and the Doc Martins eating someone’s leg :)

Thanks Alexa! I also get really inspired by the visual stuff :) Sometimes it’s hard to remember that plot needs to get wedged in there with the descriptions, lol!

Segway polo? Creepy yard gnomes? Yes, I most definitely would love this story. :)

:D There are definitely some random elements!!

Segway polo? And the Ken Burns Effect? Mmm… how do you pull that off in a novel? :) Great list, Sarah! :)

sarahenni August 22, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Same way football games or wars or zombie attacks are pulled off, I guess.

Love this: Untied Doc Martens that look like they’re eating someone’s legs! And the streets after the rain – I can see them and smell them :P
Great list, Sarah!

Mmmm wet pavement after a rainstorm DOES have a specific smell! Love the idea of channeling that :)

This Love List makes me smile. I can imagine a nervous sidekick of the protagonist actually whispering something about “creepy garden gnomes” (Though, clearly, that is only in my head.) and I love it.

HA! I love the mental image of that! That isn’t PRECISELY how it plays out, but you’re giving me ideas! :D

I am so very intrigued, Sarah! Funnily enough, I see “Keep Santa Cruz weird” bumper stickers all the time now that I live in California. It *is* a weird town. :)

Oooooh yes you do live really close to where my characters are based!! I looked into it, and it would seem the “Keep _____ Weird” slogan originated in reference to Austin, but it does seem to apply perfectly to S.C.!

Ohmygosh – LOVE the pic of the stage diving! WOW. And what an awesome list! SO curious about your story.

I had the most fun making this list! Thanks for sharing yours!

Your WIP sounds quirky and fun! Love the idea of Segway polo, though I bet that is so dangerous, lol.
